Each laundry room has a fan operated by a push switch in that room. To avoid moisturencondensation and mold, you should turn this on whenever operating the washer or dryer. There is annoptional programmable fan timer behind flip down cover. Below the program buttons is a slide outndrawer with a battery that operates the timer. This is an odd 3.0 Volt battery: CR2 3.0V.

Smoke detectors are installed within each residential unit. Smoke detectors are designed to provide an early warning of a fire. Residents are responsible for maintaining the smoke detectors in their units, including changing the (9 volts) batteries and testing them by pressing the test button. It is recommended that you change the batteries and test the units when you change your clocks for daylight savings time (twice each year). See building maintenance if you need instruction. As batteries die, smoke detectors will chirp. IMPORTANT TIP: Once the battery is changed, there will be a steady green light and a flashing red light. If you do not have this, there is a possibility that your smoke detector is not hooked up to power in the ceiling. See building maintenance about it.nIt is important to note that the unit smoke detectors are not connected to the building fire alarm. Nonemergency services will be notified of a smoke alarm within your unit. If you have a fire within your unit, you need to call 9-1-1 to report it immediately. There are smoke detectors in some common areas of the building connected to the building fire alarm system, and if activated, the Fire Department will respond to this alarm.

Many are emergencynprofessionals with medical, fire or safety occupations. Most have Training and Certification as membersnof Tacoma’s Community Emergency Response Team. It is a very good idea to have one easily accessible in your kitchenor unit. If you are trained & choose to use an extinguisher for a very small fire please use the following guidelines: Call 911 to report the fire before attemping to use extinguisher and always keep yourself on the exit side of the fire so you can escape. You may benable to put out a small fire or it may be needed to temporarily clear a path out into the hallway. Once innthe hallway, know where those fire extinguishers are; again, they can temporarily suppress a fire longnenough for you to go down hallway to your nearest exit. TIP: Some residents have emergency rope orncable ladders that can provide an escape if fire keeps you from exiting building (always first choice).

Ideally, you will get an email or read a posted notice of planned testing of the emergency Alert Intercom system. Someone may alert you on the emergency intercom that “this is just a test.

”IF YOU ARE TOLD IT IS A DRILL, OR YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHY THE SIREN IS ON, TREAT IT AS A REAL FIRE OR OTHER EMERGENCY AND IMMEDIATELY EVACUATE.

EVACUATION: Exit down the closest stairs that exit the building. In an emergency, the elevators will not carry all residents; and they are likely to be shut down for emergency personnel only. It is a good idea to take time to become familiar with all the stairs and where they exit the building; you may be surprised! Make plans on how to evacuate non-ambulatory persons in your unit. DO NOT GATHER IN THE FRONT CIRCLE. THAT IS WHERE EMERGENCY VEHICLES WILL ACCESS THE BUILDING. Gather on the Northside of Esplanade in the city parking lot under the 15th Street overpass next to the Fish Peddler. If there is a fire, we need you to know you are not still in the building. The more people we can account for, the safer it will be for First Responders to risk their lives to find you.nLOOK FOR EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM MEMBERS IN YELLOW VESTS and let them know your unit number and where everyone living or visiting is: Your name, anyone left in the unit, anyone away from building at work, etc. This will give First Responders the information they need to save lives and stay safe. DO NOT RE-ENTER THE BUILDING!

A communal locker is available for storage on each floor. On floors 2 through 8, the space is across from Unit 18. On the 9th floor the space is located bewteen Units 1 & 2. You can access these areas with your building key. The building manage inspects these storage areas once a month to look for garbage and hazardous materials.
