Ideally, you will get an email or read a posted notice of planned testing of the emergency Alert Intercom system. Someone may alert you on the emergency intercom that “this is just a test.

”IF YOU ARE TOLD IT IS A DRILL, OR YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHY THE SIREN IS ON, TREAT IT AS A REAL FIRE OR OTHER EMERGENCY AND IMMEDIATELY EVACUATE.

EVACUATION: Exit down the closest stairs that exit the building. In an emergency, the elevators will not carry all residents; and they are likely to be shut down for emergency personnel only. It is a good idea to take time to become familiar with all the stairs and where they exit the building; you may be surprised! Make plans on how to evacuate non-ambulatory persons in your unit. DO NOT GATHER IN THE FRONT CIRCLE. THAT IS WHERE EMERGENCY VEHICLES WILL ACCESS THE BUILDING. Gather on the Northside of Esplanade in the city parking lot under the 15th Street overpass next to the Fish Peddler. If there is a fire, we need you to know you are not still in the building. The more people we can account for, the safer it will be for First Responders to risk their lives to find you.nLOOK FOR EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM MEMBERS IN YELLOW VESTS and let them know your unit number and where everyone living or visiting is: Your name, anyone left in the unit, anyone away from building at work, etc. This will give First Responders the information they need to save lives and stay safe. DO NOT RE-ENTER THE BUILDING!
