It is a very good idea to have one easily accessible in your kitchenor unit. If you are trained & choose to use an extinguisher for a very small fire please use the following guidelines: Call 911 to report the fire before attemping to use extinguisher and always keep yourself on the exit side of the fire so you can escape. You may benable to put out a small fire or it may be needed to temporarily clear a path out into the hallway. Once innthe hallway, know where those fire extinguishers are; again, they can temporarily suppress a fire longnenough for you to go down hallway to your nearest exit. TIP: Some residents have emergency rope orncable ladders that can provide an escape if fire keeps you from exiting building (always first choice).
